Baby floor seats with back support

Our daughter Hannah loved to be held as an infant, which is why Chris and I invested in a baby ring sling to free up my hands so that I could do things around the house while still having her close. But even with my hands free, there are simply some things for which I needed to put her down. This was easier when she was younger, as she was usually perfectly content to stare at the ceiling for a few minutes while I finished a task. But as she grew older and could support her head, I needed to keep her entertained, so we began look at options for baby floor seats so that she could sit up and look around. Back support We’re always searching for products made in the UK, so the Cushi Tushi baby seat caught our eye. We also liked that it is paediatrician-approved because of […]

Non-contact thermometers for children

Our nearly 3-year-old daughter Hannah caught the flu or something like it a few months ago. She was miserable, and Chris and I as first-time parents were equally miserable, forced to watch our little one feel ill and uncomfortable. After coming home from the doctor with a prescription for fluids and bed rest, we tried to make her as comfortable as possible, which meant letting her sleep undisturbed. But we also needed to take her temperature to make sure it wasn’t on the rise, so checking her with our ear thermometer wasn’t ideal. What we needed was a non-contact thermometer! Measuring forehead temperature The ear thermometer also wasn’t nice because Hannah’s ears were sore (along with her throat and entire body!). Searching around in a pinch, we found the Brother Max Non-Contact Thermometer, which has got to be one of the cleverest gadgets for parents out there. By holding and […]

Gulping milk, not air: Anti-colic bottles for babies

Not long before our daughter Hannah was born, my husband Chris confessed that he was jealous that only I could breast-feed our newborn because of the intimate mother-baby bond we would have from the start. I had never thought about it before, but he was right! I didn’t want him to feel left out, so I decided that we should buy a breast pump. Even though I planned to be a stay-at-home mum (and still am, at least until Hannah enters school), Chris could then share in those special moments feeding our baby as well as help out with middle-of-the-night feedings. But that meant we had to find the right anti-colic bottles to feed her with. Air bubbles, be gone! Our immediate worry was that bottle-feeding would make our baby suffer wind. Air in the tummy can be very uncomfortable not only for your baby – who may grimace, squirm, […]

Goodbye complicated car seats! Hello easy installation!

For new parents, there is a certain responsibility to show off your little one to your family and friends. Everyone is excited to meet your new addition, which can mean a fair amount overnight guests or car journeys with baby for years to come. We certainly have experienced this with our nearly 3-year-old Hannah. Both Jane and my parents live a few hours’ drive from our house, so we knew from the beginning that we would need a sturdy and reliable car seat for our precious cargo. Infant car seats Friends of ours had a child about a year before we had Hannah, and I remember how frustrating it was for them to set up their first forward-facing car seat. The instruction manual was useless and the car seat installation wasn’t intuitive, so they were forced to take it to the local fire station to ask for help. Now, while […]
